The Murray River flows for more than 2500km, through New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

Albury-Wodonga

The twin cities of Albury and Wodonga are only a few hours drive from Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, a good place to start your journey along the Murray. The Farmers’ Market is held here every second Saturday morning (every Saturday in December), bringing together local growers, producers, restaurants, cafes and wineries.

Another feature is the Albury-Wodonga Region Wine and Food Festival. Combine your accommodation with your wining and dining and you wont have to drive home. Many accommodation establishments provide top level wining and dining along with your room. Hire a car and cruise the area.

Rutherglen

For more of the wine theme head for Rutherglen. Wagunyah Road is lined with cellar doors. Great opportunities to taste and buy.
Try the world famous Rutherglen muscats.

One of Australia’s oldest wineries, All Saints Estate, was established in 1864 and is set in a castle, with the Murray flowing past behind you. There are free wine tastings, a restaurant and a keg factory, surrounded by landscaped gardens. Lots of accommodation options in Rutherglen will help make your stay relaxed. The Indigo Cheese Company is a good place to pick up some handmade cheeses. Try the delicious new Indigo Blonde.

Other wineries include Pfeiffer Wines, Campbells Winery, Jones Winery and Drinkmoor Wines.
Spring events worth attending include the Ride, Wine & Dine, October 7–8. Exercise your legs on this guided cycle through Rutherglen, dropping into wineries along the way. Be sure to stay the night if you’ve tasted a bit too much. There are accommodation options at the wineries too.

Recreational fishing along the Murray is very popular. Dont forget to get a NSW fishing licence. Good fishing in Lake Mulwala and Lake Hume.

Yarrawonga-Mulwala

Stop at Lake Mulwala, between Yarrawonga and Mulwala in NSW.

Visit the Pioneer Museum in Yarrawonga. It contains old airplanes, bicycles and wool presses from the pioneering days.
Also the Antique Clock Museum, which contains about 500 clocks all in working order.

Echuca-Moama

Echuca is at the junction of the Murray, Goulburn and Campapse rivers. A great place to stay for a few days. Book your accommodation online. Accommodation in Echuca is plentiful and varied. From motels, B&Bs, luxury units, camp grounds, cabins and old holiday cottages. Echuca also boasts many fine eating houses. wine and dine in Echuca and enjoy history of the area. The old wharf is the hub of the historical area. Take a trip on a steamer. You can enjoy accommodation on a river boat as well as great wining and dining. Paddle steamers on the Murray, a great feature of Echuca.

For car buffs visit the National Holden Motor Museum.
Holden lovers will appreciate the collection of restored cars and utes.

Swan Hill

Swan Hill is known for the Giant Murray Cod. It's 11-metre long landmark that indicates the popularity of fishing on the Murray.

Visit Swan Hill’s Pioneer Settlement, a reconstruction of a 19th-century river port township, complete with people in period dress.
Wander around the old post office, general store, fire station and photographic studio, or watch blacksmiths in action. In the evening, hop on the motorised cart for a 45-minute sound and light tour that tells the story of the town through recordings of dialogue and music.

Mildura

Mildura is a major city

Features in the area include the historic Wentworth gaol and a tour of Orange World. Wentworth features historic old buildings that date back to the early 1800s.

Enjoy tastings of Sunraysia’s famous oranges and juice.

There are many roadside stalls selling fresh fruit, berries and pumpkins.

Attend Wentworth's main annual event, the Annual Wentworth Cup Race Meeting. Held in November you can book accommodation online. Package your tour by booking train, accommodation, eating and events in the one package.

Visit Mildura’s Jazz Food & Wine festival. Jazz bands play live in the streets, the clubs, wineries, and on the river paddle steamers.
