Situated in Eastern Victoria, the region features great coastline and lakes. Rivers systems are as good as any in the world. Rugged high country, extensive national parks and state forests.

Most of the 44000 population of this region reside in Bairnsdale, the major commercial centre for the region.

Bairnsdale is 280km (a three hour drive) from Melbourne. This is the gateway to the region.

The Great Alpine Rd is the touring route through mountainous countryside. Accommodation is available in many of the small towns dotted throughout the high country. Cann River provides a provision point and access to the coastline in the aea. Point Hicks with its sand dunes and lighthouse, walks and camping areas. Tamboon Inlet and Wingan Inlet, with its secluded estuary for small boats or canoes, are also popular with campers. Snowy River Country is steeped in legend and spirit. Here the Snowy River romances her way through the national park and lush farmlands to her journey's end at the sea.

Tour the Snowy River Country Trail, visit the Buchan Caves, long a popular visiting spot for families. Continue on to the sea via Orbost on the fertile coastal plains and Marlo, Here the Snowy River meets the sea forming a magnificent estuary. The coast road to Cape Conran is picturesque and you can enjoy swimming, fishing, diving and walks.
